What's Wrong with Markelle Fultz?

Updated: Dec 6, 2018

A recent report from ESPN stated that Markelle Fultz is due to miss the next 3-6 weeks after being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, a physical injury that affects nerves within the neck and shoulder cause immobility and pain in the arm and shoulder area. Most would be devastated at a diagnosis of this nature, however, I can only feel a sense of relief in the wake of this news. Fultz has not been the same #1 pick caliber player since he returned to training camp right before the start of his rookie season. Since then, no one has been able to tell what was wrong with Fultz, until this diagnosis.

This has been one of the strangest stories the NBA has ever seen. In college, Fultz was an explosive guard who could pass, block shots, and score on all three levels at a very efficient rate. He wasn't the number one pick in a loaded draft class for no reason. I feel like people tend to forget that he was in the same draft class as Jayson Tatum and Donavan Mitchell. Some people call him the biggest bust in NBA history, but I'm not feeding into that.

Joel Embiid was drafted in 2014, and just jump started his career LAST SEASON due to injuries. Fultz was only drafted a year ago. Injuries just don't go away over night; some can linger for years if not treated properly. Fultz obviously hasn't received the proper treatment for his condition, mainly because he just received a proper diagnosis this week! There have been rumors that he has mental issues and that is what has been holding back, but rumors are rumors. We don't know what's going on his head. What we do know, for a fact, is that he is injured.

I believe that with the proper physical therapy and his grandmothers prayers, Fultz can live up to the name he created for himself at the University of Washington. Nothing's stronger than your grandmother's prayers.
